The iconic Citroën SM has been revived.
While the manufacturer may not currently make cars for the US market, Citroën has been known for its unique designs, bold innovations, and pioneering milestones. Cars like the Citroën DS, which championed technology that is still impressive today, such as disc brakes, hydropneumatic suspension, directional headlights, and more, have now gone on to be the namesake for DS Automobiles, a new luxury marque spun off from Citroën in 2009.
DS Automobiles is now revealing the futurized revival of another classic Citroën icon, the SM. Related to the DS, the Citroën SM was the performance-oriented counterpart, competing with the highest echelon of luxury performance cars in its time. An icon of the 1970s with Maserati power, the Citroën SM’s legacy has lived on with its futuristic, striking styling and innovative approach to luxury and performance.
More than 50 years after the introduction of the SM, DS Automobiles has revealed a new design study: the SM Tribute concept. The new car started as a series of sketches published on DS Automobiles’ social media channels in 2020, after which DS Automobiles decided to bring those sketches to life. The design is modern and futuristic while maintaining the spirit and appeal of the ‘70s icon.
The color is a reinterpretation of the original Gold Leaf color, with handmade patina and a satin varnish. The interior features many of the iconic design elements of the original SM, as well as luxurious leather and Alcantara upholstery. A unique icon of ‘70s French automotive excellence, the revival of the Citroën SM in the new DS SM Tribute is a celebration of a cherished classic.
