Iconic classics achieved big numbers for Mecum Auctions in Monterey.
Every year, Monterey Car Week is one of the most anticipated automotive events, with displays of incredible luxury, exotic and classic cars, debuts of the latest and greatest cars on the scene, and the sale of iconic cars for often record-breaking numbers. Mecum Auctions is one of the many auction houses that brings incredible cars to be sold during the Monterey Car Week festivities, and this year, a total of $54 million in sales included some truly iconic vehicles.
11 of those vehicles sold for over a million dollars, showcasing a star-studded group of cars crossing the block at this year’s Mecum Auctions Monterey sale. The most valuable was a 1969 Ford GT40 Lightweight, which sold for $7.865 million, followed by a 1969 Dodge Hemi Daytona for $3.36 million and a 1967 Ferrari 275 GTB/4 for $3.08 million. The fourth-highest-selling car was an example of the legendary 2003 Ferrari Enzo, selling for $2.86 million, and the fifth was a $2.576 million 1970 Plymouth Hemi Cuda Convertible, and the sixth was a 1967 Ferrari 330 GTS, costing the highest bidder $2.53 million.
Those cars were then followed by a $2.352 million 1967 Chevrolet Corvette L88 Convertible, a 2005 Porsche Carrera GT selling for $1.7325 million, and a 1930 Pakcard 734 Speedster Boattail Runabout, selling for $1.375 million. The final car in the top ten sellers was a 1957 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Roadster, selling for $1.2375 million.
Mecum also unveiled upcoming consignments at the event, including the Essex Wire Cobra, the 1932 Ford Tommy Foster Roadster, Jackie Stewart’s 1966 Lola T90 Ford Indy Car, a 1930 Ruxton Model C Roadster, and more. Next up on Mecum’s auction calendar is the Dallas auction, set to take place from September 4 to 7. With $54 million sold at Monterey, more exciting sales are yet to come.
