Ford brings electric truck performance to the hallowed Pikes Peak.
The Ford F-150 Lightning is the innovative all-electric rendition of the Ford F-150. It shows that electrification can rise to the occasion when it comes to the many tasks and demands that pickup trucks are asked to perform. However, enthusiasts will tell you that initially, the Ford F-150 Lightning was the name given to a zany performance-focused version of the F-150, courtesy of SVT with a V8 engine and modifications throughout that contributed to hot-blooded performance.
While the current Ford F-150 Lightning name is being used for something slightly different than its original, Ford’s latest announcement sees the name being used for a purpose that pays an amazing homage to the original, with a Ford F-150 Lightning-based “SuperTruck,” set to dash up Pikes Peak as part of the highly anticipated 102nd Pikes Peak International Hill Climb event this June.
Race driver Romain Dumas will be behind the wheel to take on the intense 12.5-mile climb, with qualifying runs happening from June 18-20 and the hill climb on June 23. The daring demonstration of all-electric truck performance is just a part of Ford’s bold futuristic performance ambitions, with the Mustang Super Cobra Jet 1800 and Mustang Mach-E 1400 showing off incredible feats and helping advance EV technology, and Ford reentering the prestigious Formula 1 in 2026 through a strategic partnership with Oracle Red Bull Racing.
