Lamborghini tells some of the stories behind its broad spectrum of colors.
Lamborghini is one of the most celebrated supercar manufacturers in the automotive world, with a lineup that represents cutting-edge engineering, immense power, ultra-exclusive luxury, and, of course, eye-catching looks. Part of that is a range of over 400 colors that Lamborghini customers can choose from, especially with the help of the Ad Personam palette that helps owners turn their Lamborghini supercar into a statement of personal expression. However, with a wide range of available colors, many have special stories and origins that makes their contributions to Lamborghini’s offering even more vibrant and rich.
The seasoned Lamborghini enthusiast will notice many mythologically inspired names for Lamborghini colors. Shades like Nero Nemesis, Arancio Apodis, Viola Pasifae, Blu Cepheus, draw inspiration from ancient Greek, Roman, and Egyptian mythology, and the names themselves have Greek and Latin roots.
Stories and events that happened within Lamborghini’s own history have become inspirations for colors, as well. The story of Verde Scandal is especially entertaining: it is said that in the 1960s, a customer wanted a Lamborghini that matched the color of her dress. When the representative from Lamborghini said that they would need a sample to match the color to, she took the dress off. Viola 30th was created for the Diablo to celebrate Lamborghini’s 30th anniversary, and is still a popular shade today, and Giallo Maggio, introduced on the Aventador 50° Anniversario in 2013, honors the 50th anniversary of Lamborghini, and the month of May when the brand was founded.
Lamborghini’s ancestral home of Sant’Agata Bolognese, Italy, also served as inspiration for Lamborghini colors. These include Giallo Quercus, which is inspired by the golden oak in the city’s coat of arms, as well as the Terra Emilia and Terra di Sant’Agata Bolognese interior colors, which are inspired by the city and the region that Lamborghini calls home.
Innovations and the invention of marvelous colors and finishes serve as inspiration for their names, like the Diamond Coating technique that includes real diamond dust in the final coat of paint to contribute a stunning glow, and Crystal Effect, a painstaking paint process that creates a dazzling visual effect. As Lamborghini continues to expand its palette of colors and finishes to cater to the most discerning of clients, its lexicon of colors and the stories behind them will continue to grow even more diverse and captivating than it already is.
