Rolls-Royce celebrates an icon of natural beauty in Japan.
Japan is a country with rich heritage and traditions, as well as beauty in both modern and ancient forms. However, one of the most prominent symbols of Japan’s natural beauty and tradition for much of its history has been the cherry blossom, and when Sakura flowers begin to bloom, it ushers in a season and the tradition of ‘Hanami,’ the viewing of the cherry blossoms in the spring that is anticipated each year by many.
As Sakura season dawns this year, the gorgeous pink flowers are beginning to be seen not only in Japan but in other regions where cherry trees are planted for their temporal beauty around the world, and to celebrate the legendary Sakura and the traditions that surround it, a one-of-one Rolls-Royce Phantom Extended commission has been created by a Japanese client and Rolls-Royce Bespoke with stunning details echoing the natural beauty of Japanese cherry trees.
Dubbed the Phantom ‘Cherry Blossom,’ the commission captures the relatively small moment that is the beauty of Hanami in a permanent form, and the work to create the vehicle started three years ago. The centerpiece is a stunning Bespoke Starlight Headliner, which combines the stunning signature lights with a painstakingly-created embroidery comprised of over 250,000 stitches. The embroidery depicts a cherry bough littered with delicate white blossoms. The embroidery continues onto the door panels and Privacy Suite partition, and the sculptural 3D embroidery technique used is a Rolls-Royce first.
Continuing the incredible attention to detail in the Phantom Cherry Blossom’s luxury, the umbrellas stored inside the doors feature a similar falling petal motif. In addition, the exterior, whose subtlety elegantly conceals the opulence of the interior, makes small hints to what the car looks like inside with its Crystal and Arctic White color scheme, which is divided by a hand-painted coachline with a delicate and meticulously created cherry blossom motif. With stunning craftsmanship and attention to detail, and beautifully elegant design, the new Rolls-Royce Phantom Cherry Blossom commission is a stunning homage to an icon of Japanese springtime and natural beauty.
