What you are looking at is one of the last naturally aspirated V8 Ferrari convertibles. With the entire world turning to smaller turbocharged engines, the 458 Speciale Aperta will represent the end of an era. It is also one of the final Ferraris to wear the Pininfarina badge. The collaboration between Ferrari and Pininfarina is one that has spanned over half a century.
The Aperta is the “open”, or convertible version of the 458 Speciale. Limited to only 499 examples, it is part of the Michael Fux collection. To be a primetime feature at Mecum’s Kissimmee Auction, it is one of the most highly optioned examples we’ve seen. With over $110,000 in special-ordered items, the unique features range from Stile 3D racing seats, the telemetry system, titanium exhaust, and red leather throughout the interior. It is 200 lbs lighter than a base model 458 Italia, and it has 35 additional ponies from the 4.5 liter V8. Emblazoned with the historical NART livery, it is destined to become a centerpiece of someone’s collection.
It makes use of suspension software developed on the LaFerrari to combine handling, braking, and power delivery from the electronic differential.
