Nevera is the name Croatians use for a sudden electric storm that forms off the Adriatic coast in the summertime. It describes the awesome power of roiling black clouds punctured by sharp forks of electricity that leave a lingering image on your eyelids even after you close your eyes. And it is the name that Mate Rimac’s car company has bestowed on its astonishing new electric hypercar.
“Growing up I always looked at the cars that made history moving the bar for performance, in awe of the kind of revolutionary technology they brought to the road. That is what is driving me from day one—to develop new technology that redefines what is possible,” said Mate Rimac following a record-setting day with the Nevera at the Automotive Testing Papenburg (ATP) facility in Germany last year.
The Rimac team brought their storm to the facility to tackle the ultimate test of hypercar straight-line performance, the 0-400-0 km/h record. The test of acceleration, aerodynamics, top speed, and stopping power outperformed even the manufacturer’s targets, achieving a new record time of 29.93 seconds—over a second quicker than the previous holder. Not only that, it accomplished so many world-firsts that it even seized the title for most performance records broken in a single day.
Featuring in-house-developed technology, including an advanced battery system, custom powertrain, and the state-of-the-art Rimac All-Wheel Torque Vectoring 2 system that delivers optimal power to each wheel individually, it is the pinnacle of hypercar performance.
The Nevera commands attention, like the electrifying Croatian storms for which it’s named. The vehicle sits low to the ground, and its doors sweep outward and up to reveal a stunning cockpit. From behind the wheel, visibility is excellent, all the better to see the world whip by at up to 400 km/h.
The official dealer partner for Rimac Automobili across Canada, Grand Touring Automobiles, showcased the Rimac Nevera at the Canadian International AutoShow earlier this year. It was just the latest appearance for the car, which has also been previewed to a number of Grand Touring Automobiles’ top clients. Only 150 examples will be produced worldwide.
The exterior of the vehicle at Grand Touring Automobiles is finished in Stellar Black, while its interior features Black Raven leather and black Alcantara contrasted by red stitching and accents throughout. Its polished wheels have brushed finish details and are wrapped in sticky Michelin Pilot Sport rubber.
Its carbon fiber monocoque featured an integrated structural battery pack and bonded carbon fiber roof and electronically adjustable suspension. Active aerodynamic features include the front underbody flap, front bonnet profile, rear wing, and rear diffuser.
And its speed and agility are matched by a suite of sophisticated driver assistance systems, including torque vectoring with stability function, traction control and ABS, as well as nine onboard cameras, one lidar, six radars, and a dozen ultrasonic sensors.
The vehicle has a 550 km range and is capable of charging to 80 percent in under 30 minutes. Its power output is equivalent to nearly 2,000 hp — 1408 kW.
“The car we’ve created can get to 400 km/h and back to 0 in less time than it took the McLaren F1 to accelerate up to 350 km/h. And not only that, but it can do it again and again, breaking every other performance record in the process,” said Rimac. “If you had a Nevera and access to a track, you could do it too.”
Rimac Group is a major player in hypercar performance and assumed a majority ownership stake in the 110-year-old French hypercar maker Bugatti in 2021. Its Nevera breaks new ground in performance, with lightning-fast acceleration and cutting-edge technology. Welcome the storm.
