Own a part of history from the Barris Star Car Collection. If you want to film an action movie with Samuel L Jackson, Ice Cube, and Willem Dafoe, you better have a car worthy of these stars. “XXX: State of the Union” was filmed in 2004 and released the following summer. The script needed a muscle car that was easy to identify, so they decided on a 1967 Pontiac GTO. Five well-worn examples were found, and 4 were used during filming.
While the film cars were decent, they were made amazing thanks to special effects in post-production. To promote the film, the 5th car was treated to a meticulous restoration overseen by George Barris. The legendary fabricator and custom builder knew it would be on display at events around the country, so it had to be perfect.

The movie cars used wood and foam to form the chopped top and the fender flares, but George insisted on all-metal. Another contrast is under the hood.

While the movie cars had old Pontiac V6 or V8 power, George insisted on a modern Corvette V8. This fuel-injected LT1 has an upgraded Optispark ignition, Air Conditioning, and a performance tune.

Behind it is a 4L60E automatic transmission. This 4-speed is the same found in police cars and 4WD

The color-changing paint costs $9,000 a gallon, and it took 100 hours to achieve this finish. Behind the headlights are (

Inside you are treated to leather seats from a late-model GTO. The dash was handmade and loaded with Autometer gauges. If you need speed, the small nitrous oxide bottle on the center console could easily be plumbed to the intake. To keep you cool in the summer, the aluminum radiator has dual fans, and the intake filter grabs cool air from the inner fender.

Sadly, George passed away in 2015, and his creations have become sought after by collectors around the world. It is being sold by Andy Perillo, the owner of ShowBusters.
