Presented by RM Sotheby’s – First launched in 1993 as a homologated road car, the Lister Storm was powered by one of the largest V-12 engines ever fitted to a production car at that time: a 7.0-liter unit derived from the Jaguar XJR-9 that raced in FIA Group C campaigns. Four examples were completed before production of the road-going Storm ceased. The Storm was subsequently developed for motorsport in various guises, with this GT example joined alongside GTL, GTM, and GTS models.
This Lister Storm GT, chassis number GTM005, was built in March 2001 and entered by Lister Racing in FIA GT Championships in 2001, 2002, and 2003 as a factory car, securing five podium finishes in that time. It finished 2nd at Silverstone and the same at the Spa 24 Hours in 2002, followed by 1st place at Anderstorp and 2nd at Monza in 2003.
In 2004, Lister Racing sold chassis GTM005 to Fournier Laroque, of French team Red Racing, which campaigned the car with Lister factory backing in the FFSA GT Championship during 2005 and 2006. Their best result was 1st place in race one at Pau, and the Storm would take 2nd place at Dijon. The car crashed during qualifying at Albi in September of that year. It was rebuilt using an original chassis from another Lister Storm, identified as GTM001, retained by Lister after its own crash at a car show in Italy in 2004 (in which the chassis was not reportedly damaged).
In 2008, in the ownership of Gravity Racing International, the car was invited to and attended the Goodwood Festival of Speed, one of few times the car has been seen in public in recent years. The car is presented for sale in the specification it wore in 2003, with the exterior refinished to feature the same livery and show the #14 it sported when crossing the finish line in pole position at Anderstorp of that year. The original damaged GTM005 chassis is offered with the car. Also included in the sale are large amounts of documentation and paperwork documenting the history of the car.
RM Sotheby’s will present this vehicle as part of a single-owner collection comprised of 75 of the finest racing and road cars in the world, offered entirely without reserve. The Guikas Collection, to be sold at Paul Ricard Circuit in France in November 2021, presents pedigrees spanning from the endurance racing of the 24 Hours of the Le Mans to the world stage of Formula One and nearly everything in between. The collection of race cars will provide modern racing enthusiasts an introduction into virtually all vintage racing series worldwide, including GT and road cars that are equally impressive which offer a wide selection of Pre- and Post-War sports cars.
