For three decades, Ding Yi, a leading light of Chinese abstract contemporary art, has dedicated himself to drawing crosses, exploring every form, color, and expression. These symbols are now driving on the streets of Shanghai, thanks to Porsche’s Sonderwunsch program, which created a unique Taycan Turbo S based on Ding Yi’s painting “Appearance of Crosses 2022-2.” Alexander Fabig, Vice President of Individualisation and Classic at Porsche, describes the paintwork as the most complex Porsche has ever undertaken. With the Sonderwunsch program, Porsche offers its customers personalized designs of the highest quality, and this collaboration with Ding Yi was indeed a first of its kind.
The Taycan’s body base paintwork was selected by Ding Yi himself as 914Olympblue from the “Paint to Sample” program. Even the interior is integrated with details from Ding Yi’s picture, creating an impression of artwork while driving. This project not only reinterprets the innovative spirit and luxurious experience of the Porsche Taycan but also establishes a dialogue between the painting and the character of the Taycan Turbo S. Despite its elaborate paintwork, the one-off car remains suitable for everyday use.
Owning Porsche models for years, Ding Yi chose the Taycan Turbo S as the ideal vehicle for his work of art, describing it as the most impressive car of the early EV era. He even announced that he would drive the valuable one-off car at home in Shanghai, reflecting Porsche’s commitment to craftsmanship that combines beauty with practicality. This partnership represents a fresh approach to design and luxury and sets a new standard for personalization and artistry in the automotive world.
