Porsche snags a big endurance racing victory.
The 2024 FIA World Endurance Championship is over. After the final eight-hour race in Bahrain, Porsche’s No. 6 drivers were able to claim the title for the Drivers Championship after a long and epic battle. Meanwhile, the No. 5 car finished third in the race, with the team ranking fifth in the Drivers Championship. At the same time, Porsche managed to be runner-up in the Manufacturers Championship, losing the title narrowly to Toyota Gazoo Racing.
The No. 5 car lost significant ground at the start of the race. Still, its drivers, Kévin Estre, André Lotterer, and Laurens Vanthoor, clawed their way to an 11th-place finish, which gave them enough points to win the Drivers Championship title. While the car at times had the potential to snag a podium finish, penalties kept it from reaching the race leaders.
Despite the many challenges throughout the race in Bahrain and the season, Porsche is celebrating an incredible endurance racing season with the innovative hybrid Porsche 963 racing hypercar. Despite the season being over, the pursuit of racing excellence continues. The Porsche 963 will return to the Bahrain F1 circuit soon, with Porsche’s works driver Mathieu Jaminet behind the wheel for the FIA WEC official rookie test.
