The BMW 5 Series is one of the world’s favorite executive sedans, which is what makes the announcement of the upcoming all-electric i5 version of it so exciting. BMW has announced that the testing and development of the new i5 is reaching the home stretch, which means that the car will be revealed soon. With its reveal will also come the introduction of plenty of amazing new technology and innovation that will make the driving and ownership experience, safer, more luxurious, and more enjoyable.

The car has been tested in various conditions: in Arjeplog, Sweden for cold weather, snow, and ice, other places around the world for hot weather testing, and the south of France for fine-tuning at BMW’s proving grounds. Features like the Adaptive Suspension Professional with electronically-controlled dampers, standard on the BMW i5 M60 xDrive were perfected in this testing, as well as Highway Assistant which provides hands-free driving up to 85 mph, and Active Lane Change with eye activation, using interior cameras to monitor the driver’s eye position, offering lane change opportunities, and upon acceptance, requiring the driver to look in the side mirror to activate. Production of the car is set to begin this summer, with a market launch set for October, and it will represent a revolutionary change for BMW’s executive sedan staple.
