The Bugatti Chiron “Golden Era” Is A One-Off Painted By Hand

Significant changes are underway for Bugatti. The Chiron is nearing the end of its production run, and once the final W16 Mistral rolls off the production line in a few years, that’s it for its 16-cylinder engine. As such, a customer decided to take this time to look back through the brand’s history and pay tribute to its many eras with a unique one-off project.

The French carmaker unveiled its latest creation, the “Golden Era.” It’s based on the Chiron Super Sport, of which fewer than 80 are scheduled to be produced. The idea is to take vehicles representing pivotal moments in the brand’s history and paint sketches of them onto this hypercar’s doors.

Before jumping into the sketches themselves, we have to first acknowledge its gradient paintwork, which blends a dark Nocturne Black finish up front, which transitions into a gold Doré shade towards the car’s rear.

The sketches live on its two doors. On the passenger side live 26 hand-drawn cars, representing the marque’s origins and cars like the Type 57 SC Atlantic and Type 41 Royale. The driver’s side showcases the carmaker’s revival in 1987 and features 19 sketches of the EB110, Veyron, and Chiron. The hand-drawn portion of this car’s paint alone took over 400 hours to complete.

According to former Bugatti Design Director Achim Anscheidt:

“Given the vision and exacting nature for this project – and the fantastical ideation we wanted to realize – ‘Golden Era’ is probably the most demanding piece of tailored personalization work that my team and I have ever worked on.”

The two-tone configuration continues in the cabin’s leatherwork. Six further hand-painted sketches live in its door cards, three on either side. Its headrests feature the “Golden Era” name embroidered on them while the vehicle’s name also lives elsewhere throughout the interior. Unique stitching, and custom painted door sills denoting important dates and gold badges throughout complete the project.

While the carmaker announced the car’s existence online today, it plans to complete the official hand over to its new owner during this year’s Monterey Car Week where the vehicle will be displayed.
