One of the most storied brands in the entire automotive industry continues to discover more of its past.

For over 100 years, Bugatti has made some of the world’s most desirable cars, and they’ve been collected and cherished by many throughout the years. Hans Matti, a Swiss collector, built up a stunning garage of some of the most incredible unrestored cars from Bugatti, and now that the collection has been passed on to new ownership, the cars are visiting their original home.

Hans Matti isn’t just any collector, either, as he’s the Registrar of the Bugatti Club Suisse. His extensive knowledge of the Bugatti brand and its history helped him gain incredible insight into his cars and their stories. His collection included what is thought to be the most original Bugatti Type 51 in existence, as well as a Type 37A, the only Type 49 Faux cabriolet with Jean Bugatti coachwork surviving, a Type 35B, and a Type 35A with the only existing Type 36 engine, gearbox, and rear axle.

With such an amazing, one-of-a-kind collection, parting with it was tough. Negotiations to acquire the collection lasted 2 ½ years, with Caroline Bugatti, Ettore Bugatti’s granddaughter even involved in the process. The cars have some of the most incredible automotive history of any Bugattis, as the Type 49 was Jean Bugatti’s own car, the Type 51 was driven by Louis Chiron and Achille Varzi. This homecoming represents a once-in-a-lifetime gathering of some of the world’s greatest cars ever made.
