Bugatti continues to establish record-breaking dominance.
Bugatti is ending the 20-year long era of W16-powered hypercars, which used a revolutionary quad-turbocharged 16-cylinder powertrain to create record-breaking automotive masterpieces that were sure to go down in history. However, that era isn’t going without a bang, and the final W16-powered model that Bugatti revealed, the new Bugatti W16 Mistral roadster, ensured that the W16 era would have one more record to its name.
With a livery that echoes a legacy of record-breaking Bugattis like the Veyron Super Sport World Record Edition, the Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse World Record Edition, and the Chiron Super Sport 300+, the Bugatti W16 Mistral World Record Car has emerged with a new top-speed world record for open-top cars, rocketing to 453.91 kmh, or 282 mph.
At ATP Automotive Testing’s track facilities, the unparalleled open-top hypercar demonstrated one of the ultimate iterations of Bugatti’s revolutionary quad-turbocharged W16 powertrain, combined with incredible exclusivity, painstaking engineering, and captivating design. Andy Wallace was behind the wheel, Bugatti’s Pilote Officiel and a winner of the prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans race, unleashing the immense power of the vehicle to reach the 282-mph top speed.
In addition, the customer of the car was in attendance for the record-breaking event, which is a first in Bugatti history, also getting the opportunity to ride along with Andy Wallace for another high-speed run, nearly reaching the same speed as a passenger. The Bugatti W16 Mistral World Record car now joins the incredible Singh Collection in Punjab, India, where it joins an incredibly curated hypercar collection which includes Bugatti’s other world record-breaking cars, the Veyron Super Sport, the Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse World Record Edition, and the Chiron Super Sport 300+.
A unique masterpiece, the W16 Mistral World Record Car cost a staggering amount of nearly $14.8 million dollars, with a World Record livery consisting of Jet Orange accents atop black exposed carbon fiber bodywork. The same orange accents throughout the interior continue to remind the owner of the record-breaking potential of the ultra-performance machine. With a new world record, Bugatti’s W16 era is ending the way it should.
