One of basketball’s biggest names tries his hand at tractor racing.
Dwyane Wade is known for an incredibly successful career in the NBA, playing for the Miami Heat, Cleveland Cavaliers and the Chicago Bulls from 2003 until 2019. With three championships and an MVP title to his name, he’s a household name in the world of basketball, with an illustrious post-retirement celebrity status as well. This past weekend, Dwyane Wade took to one of the automotive world’s most anticipated events to expand his horizons beyond the sport, and instead test his skills at tractor racing.
That event was, of course, Porsche’s Rennsport Reunion 7, the highly anticipated Porsche fan gathering which saw a record number of over 91,000 guests, making it the world’s largest Porsche event. Held at the iconic WeatherTech Laguna Seca Raceway, the track was the center of the festivities, in keeping with the “Rennsport” name, which translates to “race sport.”
One of the most anticipated races at the event was a Rennsport Reunion favorite: the Porsche Tractor race. It isn’t the most intense race, as the vintage Porsche Tractors are only able to reach speeds of 15 mph, but the humor and absurdity of the race makes it an irresistible watch, and the challenging Laguna Seca Raceway, especially the legendary Corkscrew corner certainly helps.
With a once-in-a-lifetime racing experience at Porsche’s biggest event yet, Dwyane Wade’s participation in the Rennsport Reunion 7 Porsche Tractor race added significantly to the event’s splendor, which served as a celebration of Porsche’s 75th anniversary, the Porsche 911’s 60th anniversary, and everything that makes Porsche the brand that is loved by so many.
