Toyota Recreates Marty’s Truck for Back to the Future Day

Today is the day. It’s Oct. 21, 2015, the day that Marty and Doc traveled to in “Back to the Future II,” and the world is abuzz about the movie. DeLoreans are popping up around the globe, and brands everywhere are celebrating with their own “futuristic” creations.

Toyota jumped on the BTTF bandwagon, revealing two separate cars to commemorate the day. The first is a special creation, bringing Marty’s dream car to the 21st century, and the second is a video posted Oct. 20 showing off the sustainable energy tech behind the Mirai – a car that, technically, is powered by garbage.

The video shows Christopher Lloyd meeting up with Michael J. Fox and talking a bit about the movie before they get a close look at the new Mirai, a car powered by hydrogen that can feasibly be harvested from landfills. So, while it’s not quite the Mr. Fusion the DeLorean had been fitted with, it’s a real world version of the innovative concept.

The 2016 Tacoma received a total makeover, and today only, fans in Los Angeles, New York City and Dallas can get a close up look at a truck that resembles the 4×4 Marty lusted after in the second film. With custom 1985 Toyota Truck exterior paint, KC HiLites Gravity LED lights on a custom light bar, 1985 mud flaps, vintage headlights and taillights and more, it’s a modern imagining of a classic creation.

At the beginning of the movie, Marty sees a brand new version of the truck, stares at it longingly and says, “Check out that 4×4 – that is hot! Some day, Jennifer, some day.” At the end of the movie, when Marty gets back to an improved version of 1985 after hopping all around the 20th and 21st centuries, it’s exactly that truck that he finds waiting for him in the garage, waxed to shining and ready to go, courtesy of an aged Biff.

McFly even pulls a few impressive moves in the truck when challenged to a drag race, distracting Jen from recalling her “dream” of a visit to 2015.
