Top speed records are meant to be broken, so that is what Chevrolet set out to do with the 2019 Corvette ZR1. At a test track in Papenburg, Germany, teams from around the world dial in their latest models. To make the top speed official, every car must run the course in both directions. Running with the wind at your back is always easier, and it yielded a speed of 214 mph.

Heading into the wind, the best they could do was around 210, for an average top speed of 212 mph. That places it between the Ferrari F12tdf and the Porsche GT2 RS for a fraction of the price. For comparison, the 1988 Corvette Sledgehammer went 257 mph in production form. Just like the new ZR1, the Callaway-built supercars are part of American culture.
