The first-ever retail production example of the head-turning 2024 Corvette E-Ray has been sold at the recent Barrett-Jackson Palm Beach event for a cool $1.1 million. The winning bidder? None other than Rick Hendrick.
Like previous auctions of “first retail production examples” at Barrett-Jackson, the entirety of the hammer price of the new Corvette will be used to benefit a nonprofit. In this instance, the $1.1 million will be donated to DonorsChoose. This nonprofit organization was founded to connect donors directly with requests from educators/teachers. Since the organization’s founding in 2000, more than two and half million classroom projects have been fulfilled through DonorsChoose.
“General Motors and Chevrolet are proud to join DonorsChoose on its mission of combatting inequality in school funding by providing underserved communities with the resources needed for a quality education,” said Steve Majoros, chief marketing officer, Chevrolet. “The Corvette E-Ray is a special product for Chevrolet, and we are honored that the proceeds from the sale of VIN 001 will aid this organization in supporting students and teachers around the nation.”

When delivered, Hendrick will receive a revolutionary Corvette. For power, the E-Ray relies on a 6.2-liter V8 engine but there’s the addition of an electric model to the front axle. That addition makes the E-Ray the first all-wheel drive Corvette and it produces a whopping 655 horsepower to boot. What’s more, the E-Ray is the quickest production Corvette with a 0 to 60 mph time of just 2.5 seconds.
