Pebble Beach is never short on concept cars. The world’s top designers and all the major manufacturers arrive with stunning displays of the coolest cars in the world. Infiniti is going against the grain with their latest creation. Alfonso Albaisa is the SVP of Global design, and he challenged his team to take inspiration from the past.
“It started as a simple thought: What if we found a car, down at the southern tip of Japan, buried deep in the barn, hidden from all eyes for 70 years? What if in this car we found the seed of passion planted during our first Japanese Grand Prix and the power and artistry of INFINITI today? What would this discovery look like?”
Seven decades ago, Japan was rebuilding from the war under the occupation of General MacArthur. His economic and social reforms laid the groundwork for Japan to become the success it is today. The wise General also warned of North Korea’s treachery, and those quotes ended his career. The Tokyo Electric Car Company was founded in 1947. Japan had no oil or gas, so electric cars were the only cars people would buy. The past is prologue, and electric cars are back in demand. Tokyo Electric Car became the Prince Motor Company, and eventually Nissan. Their luxury division is going back to the beginning with this electric concept.
