Official DeLorean Comeback Teased By Italdesign

The Delorean is poised for a triumphant return.

In the early 1980s, the DeLorean DMC-12, or just DMC DeLorean, was unveiled to the American market as a new rear-engine sports car with a striking design and famous gullwing doors. While the car did have some issues, it’s become an icon thanks to its appearance in the Back To The Future movies. Decades later, examples of the DMC DeLorean can be seen cruising the streets with or without their time machine attachments.

While we have heard rumblings of a DeLorean rebirth over the years, this one is as official as it gets. Italdesign, the team behind cars like the Nissan GT-R 50 and the ZeroUno, is the company behind the revival of DeLorean. To be more specific, the company’s registered name is Italdesign-Giugiaro S.p.A. If you’re quite familiar with the original DeLorean, you’d know that it was actually Giorgetto Giugiaro who was behind the design of the American sports car. Thanks to this relationship, having Italdesign be in charge of a new generation of DeLoreans makes perfect sense.

To announce the happening, Italdesign’s YouTube channel uploaded the video found above. In the video, we see the unmistakable outline of a DeLorean, albeit with smoother edges and a striking headlight design. While we don’t know the specifics of the DeLorean’s revival, you can visit DeLorean.com to sign up for more information as it gets released.
