Auction Results from 2018 Amelia Island Events

The events of 2018 Amelia Island events have come and gone, leaving only memories and results behind. During the event, Hagerty diligently recorded the numbers from the many auctions that took place and have shared them with us. It should be noted that these results do not include all post-sale “off the block” transactions.

Porsches performed very well in Amelia Island, having a 90 percent sell-through rate. Some of the Porsche highlights include a 1993 Porsche 911 Carrera RS 3.8 in Speed Yellow that sold for $1,655,000 through RM Sotheby’s and a 1993 Porsche 964 Turbo S Leichtbau in Midnight Blue that sold for $1,760,000 through Gooding & Company.

RM Auctions Returns to Fort Lauderdale

Hagerty notes that “later model, low-mileage, low-production performance cars” performed very well during the event, citing a 2001 Lamborghini Diablo VT 6.0 SE with 14 miles that sold for a  $412,000 through RM Sotheby’s. In contrast with these performance cars, pre-war vehicles performed well with a sell-through rate of 83 percent. A great example of spectacular cars in the segment that was at the event is the condition #1 rated 1931 Marmon Sixteen Convertible Coupe that sold for $1,050,000 at RM Sotheby’s event.

Market observer Colin Comer told Hagerty that  “this week’s sales proved that buyers have faith in the underlying strength of the market, which kicked off with a bang in Arizona despite gloomy expectations. Spectacular cars priced under $1M and fresh-to-market cars such as the barn find Cobra and Ferrari 275 GTB that sold at Gooding continue to be especially attractive to buyers.”

The next big car week that we’ll see in the U.S. will be the events held in Monterey at the end of August, but there will be many other auctions taking place. Be sure to check back with us for more automotive auction coverage.
