On the verge of the Finali Mondiali taking place at the iconic Mugello Circuit from October 24th-30th, Ferrari has pulled the covers off its groundbreaking 296 Challenge. Scheduled for a 2024 debut in both the Europe and North America series of the Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli, the 296 Challenge is more than just an evolution of its predecessor, the 488 Challenge Evo; it’s a revolutionary design with unmatched track performance. Derived from the 296 GTB, Ferrari’s all-new race car introduces monumental changes to its powertrain, aerodynamics, and vehicle driving dynamics to assure maximum on-track performance. Most notably, it’s the first supercar in the series to feature a 120-degree V6 engine. This 2992cc twin-turbo engine removes the hybrid component seen in other models, a design choice mirrored in the new 296 GT3. Pumping out a staggering 690 horsepower and 545 lb-ft of torque, the 296 Challenge establishes a new power record for its class.

The track-focused aerodynamics package on the Ferrari 296 Challenge is another showstopper. Achieving downforce figures never before seen in the history of Ferrari’s single-make series, the car can generate over 1,1918 lbs of downforce at 155 mph when the spoiler is at its maximum angle of attack. These groundbreaking aerodynamics contribute to exceptional track efficiency, ensuring drivers can push their limits in all conditions. Additionally, the Ferrari 296 Challenge debuts the ABS EVO Track system, a specialized adaptation of the innovative braking system first seen on the 296 GTB. Coupled with new CCM-R PLUS brake discs, the race car’s braking performance and consistency get a significant boost. Completing the performance package are specially designed Pirelli 19-inch tires, contributing to the car’s unmatched handling and performance.

The Ferrari 296 Challenge rewrites the rulebook for Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli, offering a track experience that closely mirrors the specifications of the 296 GT3. Whether it’s in terms of engine power, aerodynamics, or braking, this car is setting new standards for Ferrari’s legacy as a pioneer in motorsports.
