GAA Classic Cars April 2021 Auction: 1968 Ford Mustang Shelby GT 350

5 1

Presented by GAA Classic Cars – When Carroll Shelby was asked to make the Mustang faster, his team jumped at the opportunity to stuff their 427 big block between the fenders, and this became the GT500. But, Mr. Shelby took knew full well it wouldn’t be decent in the corners with such an anchor up front. That’s why a small team decided to push the Windsor small block to new heights.

Only 30 small block Shelby Mustangs were offered in this spec for 1968, Without 900 lbs over the nose, it corners, stops, and grips much better than the GT500. This car is mostly original and listed in the Shelby Registry, showing full ownership since new. Being numbers-matching, it has only had 3 owners since it was delivered in late ’67. A rare car by any measure, it has a tilt-away steering column, power steering, power disc brakes and the indestructible Toploader 4-speed.

The incredible Shelby suspension is ready to carve up the track, but the provenance of this car makes it perfect as the centerpiece of your Blue Oval collection. Details like functional brake ducts and the Kamm-back rear spoiler would be standard issue on late-model Mustangs, and this is where it all started. If you can dream in Sunlit Gold, it will be the highlight of the GAA Classic Car Auction next week. Get registered now because Shelby collectors around the world are poised to pounce.
