One lucky bidder now owns one of Lewis Hamilton’s race cars.

RM Sotheby’s recently held a very special auction at the Silverstone Circuit where the first-ever Lewis Hamilton Formula 1 car crossed the block. This specific F1 car was Hamilton’s Turkish Grand Prix race-winning McLaren MP4-25A, chassis no. 01. The auction took place after the first-ever sprint qualifying race for the British Grand Prix, and the 140,000 spectators even got a chance to see the race car do a couple of laps. When the final bid was accepted, the F1 car was sold for £4,836,000, which equates to about $5,699,000. It was assumed that this race car would fetch a pretty penny considering it was the first Lewis Hamilton F1 car to ever be offered for public sale. With that price, this race car becomes the second most expensive F1 car ever sold at auction. Coming in at first is Michael Schumacher’s F2001 car, which was sold by RM Sotheby’s for $7,500,000 in 2017. In third place is Schumacher’s F2002 car that was also sold by RM Sotheby’s for a hammer price of $6,643,750.

We can’t wait to see the next RM Sotheby’s and Formula 1 collaboration auction, because these are truly exciting.
