Mecum Auctions celebrated its 30th anniversary in Kansas City, Missouri, marking the occasion with an impressive $16.3 million in sales, the second-highest gross total in the event’s storied history. The auction showcased an array of 956 collector cars and Road Art items, attributing to an incredible 74% sell-through rate. Leading the pack was a 2005 Ford GT (Lot S96.1) with 5,154 miles, fetching a top bid of $429,000. Hot on its heels was a 1970 Shelby GT500 Convertible equipped with a Super Cobra Jet (Lot S118), which brought $286,000. Modern classics also made a strong showing, with a 2023 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 (Lot S106.1) with just 19 miles achieving $214,500, and a 2024 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Coupe (Lot S97.1) with a mere 5 miles reaching $159,500.
Mecum Auction’s diverse selection included a 1929 Packard Deluxe Eight Dual Cowl Phaeton (Lot S36) from Jim Blin’s Cars of Yesteryear at Heartland Acres Collection, which sold for $148,500, securing its spot as the fifth most valuable sale. Jim Blin’s collection saw all 16 of its offerings sell, totaling $818,430. Highlights included a 1954 Chevrolet Corvette Roadster (Lot S31) at $110,000 and a 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air Convertible (Lot S32) for $96,800. Chris’s Camaro Collection also fared well, with five classic pony cars bringing in $196,050. The John Hollansworth Sr. Collection achieved a 100% sell-through rate for its 14 vehicles, totaling $296,210.
