RM Sotheby’s Monterey Auctions Results in Over $170 Million in Sales

Last week in Monterey, California, auction house RM Sotheby’s was out to break the record for “highest grossing collector car auction of all time.”

1998 McLaren F1 ‘LM-Specification’

In a press release issued August 15 by RM Sotheby’s, they touted an unofficial tally sitting at $172.7 million. This figure is a 20 percent increase over their 2014 California auction, and the new record for the highest grossing collector car auction.

To make this astounding result possible were 35 cars auctioned off with $1+ million results. What’s more, four of these lots exceeded $10 million. These included a 1964 Ferrari 250 LM for $17.6 million, 1998 McLaren F1 ‘LM-Spec’ for $13.75 million, 1956 Ferrari 250 GT Berlinetta Competizione ‘Tour de France’ for $13.2 million and 1953 Jaguar C-Type Works Lightweight for $13.2 million.

Included in these numbers is The Pinnacle Portfolio, a private collection of some of the rarest supercars and collector’s cars. The sale of collection amounted to $75 million, almost half of the entire auction’s results. When the official numbers come in, they could be a new record for a private automobile collection sold in the span of one day.

We are still waiting on full official results from RM Sotheby’s, so stay with us for more information. In the meantime, check out the unofficial top 10 sales from their Thursday and Friday night auctions.
