Colonel Bud Anderson spent six hours in his P-51 Mustang on D-Day. Although it was 75 years ago, he and his fighter plane are still famous in aviation history. That’s because he is a triple fighter ace. He and his aircraft “Old Crow” flew 116 missions and shot 16 Luftwaffe planes out of the sky. Although he is 97 years old, we wouldn’t want to be in his crosshairs. That is why Roush & Ford have unveiled an “Old Crow” P-51 inspired Mustang.
It is a 700 horsepower Mustang GT wearing the livery of Col. Anderson’s P-51. It will be placed among several surviving P-51 fighters at this year’s AirVenture show. The annual fly-in takes place in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, and Ford has been supporting it for 21 years. The car will be auctioned to support the Experimental Aircraft Association, a group that works to educate the next generation of American pilots.
