Cars like the BAC Mono R look absolutely otherworldly to the untrained eye. It looks like it could be something out of Speed Racer, or maybe it’s the Batmobile. However, a car enthusiast should be able to recognize it as BAC’s single-seat, ultra-lightweight machine dedicated to visceral driving and racing prowess. However, it’s actually street legal, and its ability to take to the road can result in tons of fun, and a truly unforgettable driving experience, as famed comedian and car collector extraordinaire Jay Leno discovered.
The new 2024 BAC Mono R paid a visit to Leno’s show, Jay Leno’s Garage, where Jay Leno not only had the privilege of getting an up-close and personal look at the Mono and Mono R, two track-ready supercars with incredible ultra-light engineering, agility, and high performance, but also get behind the wheel to experience their driving pleasure for himself. Its power-to-weight ratio, despite having 343 hp, which might not sound like much, is greater than that of the Bugatti Chiron, thanks to its weight of just over half a ton.
What that translates to is an absolutely thrilling experience once you hit the road. Behind the wheel of the Mono R, Leno describes it as a “Formula 1 car for the road,” comparing it also to hypercars in terms of performance.
