Backus is building the car’s body panels by 3D-printing them, wrapping the 3D-printed pieces in carbon fiber and then coating it in epoxy. This process is called carbon-fiber encapsulation. As for the inner-workings of the replica Lamborghini, Backus crafted the chassis out of steel. For the source of power, they have opted for an LS1 V8 engine.
They expect this car to be rolling on the streets by October. They then plan to take the car around to schools. More specifically, he wants to introduce it to kids in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics (STEAM) program to get kids interested in sciences.
