Automobili Lamborghini

The engine platform that captivated the ears and hearts of millions.

Automobili Lamborghini is famous for creating some of the world’s most iconic supercars, using a massive naturally-aspirated 12-cylinder engine as its DNA and heartbeat. The tradition of incorporating V12 engine platforms begins long before the Murcielago and Aventador SVJ, back in the early years when the brand was making its transition from operating as a tractor manufacturer. Almost 60-years later, Automobili Lamborghini is proud to celebrate the era of its V12 by reminiscing on its history and involvement in Italian supercar development. The first-ever Lamborghini to leave the Sant’Agata Bolognese factory in 1964 was the 350 GT, an early front-engine model delivered to Livorno-native jazz drummer Giampiero Giusti. The same car, now the oldest production Lamborghini in existence, perfectly restored and certified by Polo Storico, won Best in Show at the Lamborghini & Design competition held in Trieste and organized in 2019 by Lamborghini Polo Storico.

As time went on, so did the V12, which made its appearance in the Lamborghini 400 GT that came just shortly after. The 400 GT achieves its level of popularity from renowned individuals like bassist Paul McCartney from The Beatles, who owned a red 1968 400 GT chassis #1141 for more than ten years. With a successful brand launch, Lamborghini quickly saw traction with a cinematic star role in the 1967 Columbia Pictures film ‘Kill Me Quick’. Since its debut in 1964, Lamborghini’s V12 engine became a benchmark for other notorious models like the Miura, Countach, Diablo, and many more. As a mark to its last pure aspirated V12 from the House of Sant’Agata, Lamborghini celebrates the special occasion with the latest Aventador Ultimae.
