After 40 years, duPont REGISTRY’s cover cars capture moments in automotive history.
This year, duPont REGISTRY, the source for supercars since 1985, is celebrating its 40th anniversary. In that time, some of the world’s most desirable, iconic, and influential luxury and exotic cars have graced the cover of our magazine over the past 40 years, and together, the cover cars of duPont REGISTRY’s hundreds of monthly issues tell a story of automotive history and its evolution since the ‘80s.
Looking back at duPont REGISTRY’s cover cars from the year 2005, some serious nostalgia is stirred up for any automotive enthusiast, and each year, a cover car shows an iconic moment of the past, when a car we see as a classic today was the hottest new creation on the market. January – Ferrari F430
By 2005, the Ferrari 360, an iconic mid-mounted V8 supercar from Ferrari, officially had a successor. That was the F430, a thoroughly revised and updated model with a more powerful engine and updated styling, just to name a few changes. It starred on our January 2005 cover.
February – Shelby GR-1 Concept & Ecosse Heretic
February 2005 saw the futuristic yet all-American Shelby GR-1 concept car take the top half of our “Choices” cover, while the bottom half was occupied by the Ecosse Heretic motorbike.
March – TechArt Porsche 911, P-Factor Lamborghini Gallardo
March 2005’s duPont REGISTRY cover was dedicated to customized exotics, like the Porsche 911 enhanced by TechArt, and the Lamborghini Gallardo with a P-Factor makeover.
April – Porsche Carrera GT Gemballa
Far from an ordinary Porsche, our April 2005 issue saw a rare Gemballa-modified Porsche Carrera GT on the cover.
May – Ferrari F430 Spider
Just in time for the summer of 2005, the Ferrari F430 Spider was the star of our May 2005 cover, as the open-top version of the F430 V8-powered supercar.
June – Ferrari F50, Bugati EB 110, McLaren F1
On our June 2005 cover, these three standout supercars, the Ferrari F50, the Bugatti EB110, and the McLaren F1, were all being heralded as noteworthy vehicles despite being as much as ten years old. However, Another 20 years later, they have only gained more panache, value, and exclusivity as collector-grade masterpieces.
July – Chevrolet Corvette Z06
The Z06 variant of any Corvette generation ups the ante, and for the C6 generation, the Z06 boasted an anticipated figure of over 500 horsepower, making it a commendable and highly respected American performance machine in the time that it starred on our July 2005 cover.
August – Lamborghini Concept S
August 2005 saw the Lamborghini Concept S take the cover of duPont REGISTRY. Today, the Concept S remains a highly valuable and collector-cherished one-off.
September – Maybach Exelero
The dramatic coupe wearing the Maybach badge has become something of an urban legend since its introduction, with rumors of celebrity ownership and appearances throughout pop culture. However, when it was first unveiled, it starred on the September 2005 duPont REGISTRY cover.
October – Saleen S7 Twin Turbo, Saleen S281 Ford Mustang
Two masterpieces from American performance specialist Saleen starred on our October 2005 cover, the S7 Twin Turbo supercar, and the S281, Saleen’s take on the Mustang.
November – NOVITECH Ferrari F430 Spider, Hennessey Dodge Viper
Another pair of custom performance vehicles starred on our November 2005 cover: the NOVITECH take on the Ferrari F430 Spider, and a 2000s Hennessey staple, the Texas firm’s makeover of the Dodge Viper.
December – Gemballa GTR 600
Another Gemballa Porsche, the GTR 600, featured on our December 2005 cover.
