After 40 years, duPont REGISTRY’s cover cars capture moments in automotive history.
This year, duPont REGISTRY, the source for supercars since 1985, is celebrating its 40th anniversary. In that time, some of the world’s most desirable, iconic, and influential luxury and exotic cars have graced the cover of our magazine over the past 40 years, and together, the cover cars of duPont REGISTRY’s hundreds of monthly issues tell a story of automotive history and its evolution since the ‘80s.
Looking back at duPont REGISTRY’s cover cars from the year 2008, some serious nostalgia is stirred up for any automotive enthusiast, and each year, a cover car shows an iconic moment of the past, when a car we see as a classic today was the hottest new creation on the market. Take a trip down memory lane and look at our 2008 magazine covers below, and continue to celebrate our milestone anniversary by buying a copy of our special 40th anniversary edition magazine.

January – Mercedes-Benz S 550, Mercedes-Benz CL 600
Two of Mercedes-Benz’s flagship models, the S-Class, and the CL coupe, were shown off on our January 2008 cover, with customizations from Autocouture.

February – Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe
The Rolls-Royce Phantom was not only an opulent luxury sedan in the 2000s, but it also served as the basis for an ultra-luxe convertible, the Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe which broke cover in the late 2000s. It’s shown here on our February 2008 cover with custom wheels from Forgiato.

March – Lamborghini Murciélago Hamann
The Lamborghini Murciélago was the cover star of our March 2008 cover, with customizations from Hamann.

May – Gemballa GT Porsche Carrera GT
The Porsche Carrera GT, already an incredibly exclusive and groundbreaking supercar, served as the basis for this custom creation from Gemballa, the Gemballa GT, which was our cover star in May 2008.

June – Koenigsegg CCXR Edition
Koenigsegg being nown as a bold innovator that has constantly pushed the envelope of automotive performance and engineering capabilities since its inception, the Koenigsegg CCXR Edition was a groundbreaking hypercar in its time, with an unparalleled power to weight ratio, with exposed carbon bodywork and over 1,000 horsepower on tap. Only four examples were made.

July – Hennessey Venom 1000 Twin Turbo Dodge Viper
Hennessey took our July 2008 cover, showcasing its bread and butter at the time, its Venom 1000 twin-turbocharged makeover of the iconic Dodge Viper.

August – Lamborghini Reventón
The late 2000s saw Lamborghini begin a new legacy of ultra-exclusive limited-edition supercars that have gone on to become collector-grade masterpieces. That legacy was just expanded with the introduction of the Fenomeno at this year’s Monterey Car Week, but it began with our August 2008 cover star, the Reventón, which was based on the Murciélago, but previewed some of the design aspects of the Aventador that would eventually enter the scene a few years later.

September – Ferrari Enzo Edo Competition
The 2000s were a time when customization was much more popular than it is today, even for some of the most exclusive cars on the market. On our September 2008 cover, the car displayed wasn’t just any Ferrari Enzo, but one modified by Edo Competition.

October – Lamborghini Murciélago
The Lamborghini Murciélago was the cover star of our Annual Watch Guide cover in October 2008, with a set of custom wheels from Asanti.

November – Ronn Scorpion
Especially in its time, the Ronn Scorpion proposed a bold vision for the future of supercars. Powered by a hydrogen fuel-cell electric powertrain, the Scorpion held a spot on our November 2008 magazine cover.

December – Porsche 911 Wicked 7 Wide Body
Like the year before, a Porsche 911 with a custom Wicked-7 Wide Body kit adorned our December 2008 cover.
