The new GT2 Stradale shows that Maserati’s new era is one to be remembered.
Maserati has transformed as a manufacturer in recent years, and much of that transformation was spurred on by the introduction of the Maserati MC20, the brand’s halo supercar which introduced the flagship “Nettuno” twin-turbocharged V6 engine and succeeded the legendary Maserati MC12 supercar. However, the MC20 also served as the basis for Maserati’s return to GT racing, which the MC12 previously championed. Based on the Maserati MC20 is the Maserati GT2 racing supercar and a customer track-only supercar: the Maserati MCXtrema.
However, at this year’s Monterey Car Week, Maserati unveiled a new supercar: the GT2 Stradale. Made as a roadgoing version of the GT2 race car, the car brings the thrill of its heroic new racer to the street, resulting in an exclusive supercar that is bound to turn heads and pique the interest of performance enthusiasts.
The new GT2 Stradale bridges the gap between the stylish and luxurious MC20, and the racing-bred GT2, adding the GT2’s aggressive aerodynamics, added power, and track-ready equipment to the MC20’s stylish looks and on-road driving pleasure. The GT2 Stradale gets 640 horsepower from its 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine, which is a 10-horsepower increase from the MC20’s number. In addition, the car’s weight has decreased compared to the MC20 by over 132 pounds.
As a result, the GT2 Stradale will rocket from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.8 seconds, reaching a top speed of over 198 mph. Despite its impressive, track-focused performance, Maserati says that the GT2 Stradale doesn’t sacrifice the driving experience of the MC20.
Style is a common trait throughout Maserati’s lineup, and the GT2 Stradale is no exception. Made as a race car for the road, the style of the GT2 Stradale borrows the beautiful proportions of the MC20, and gives the iconic supercar a wider, more aggressive stance, and enhanced aerodynamics for excellent on-track performance. A revised front fascia, a large fixed rear wing, carbon fiber vents and more visually set the car apart from the standard Maserati MC20.
Fuoriserie, Maserati’s bespoke department, will provide exclusive content and specific, eye-catching configurations for the new Maserati GT2 Stradale. In addition, customers seeking even greater performance from the street-legal race car will be offered packages that are dedicated to improving said performance, including Michelin semi-slick tires, carbon ceramic brakes, four-point seatbelts, and more.
Unveiled in a Fuoriserie color, Digital Aurora Matte, a blue with hints of red and magenta mica, the Maserati GT2 Stradale is available in a range of seven Fuoriserie colors and four standard colors. The interior combines the racing focus of the car with the luxury of the MC20, with carbon fiber seen throughout, as well as Alcantara upholstery for a luxurious yet motorsport-inspired feel. The seats were designed in collaboration with Sabelt to combine comfort and racing prowess, and the steering wheel features shift lights and a race-ready shape. Yellow accents throughout provide edgy visual interest, and Maserati included creature comforts in the GT2 Stradale, like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a Sonus faber sound system, a WiFi hotspot, and more.
Maserati says that the new GT2 Stradale was created for Maserati enthusiasts to experience the thrill, dynamics, and incredible performance of its premier GT2 race car, while enjoying the supercar’s excellence on the greatest driving roads in the world. For an enthusiast who wants a car that combines Italian style and luxury with the thrill and driver-focused characteristics of a true race car, Maserati has the answer to their wish in the GT2 Stradale. The new MC20 based supercar shows that Maserati’s new era is one to be remembered, and that its anticipated return to GT racing has expanded beyond the track to include a new racing-focused but roadgoing supercar.
