LEGO and McLaren Automotive teamed up for one of the most ambitious builds ever—a full-scale McLaren P1™ made entirely from LEGO Technic pieces. But this wasn’t just a display model as this LEGO McLaren P1 could actually drive, thanks to functional steering and an electric motor.
Building the life-size P1 took a team of 23 specialists more than 8,344 hours, using 342,817 LEGO pieces. The process involved intricate planning and meticulous attention to detail to ensure the car looked—and functioned—just like the real thing. With 393 different LEGO Technic components, every curve and part of the car was recreated with precision, and now you can watch the building process and hear from those that made it all possible.
The most thrilling part of the project? Formula 1 driver Lando Norris took the LEGO McLaren P1 for a spin around the iconic Silverstone racetrack. It may not have matched F1 speeds, but the car handled corners like a champ, proving that this unique blend of LEGO creativity and McLaren engineering was more than just a toy.
