The recently unveiled McLaren 750S Spider left onlookers jaw-dropped with its dynamic North American debut at the Sun Valley Tour de Force event on July 22. Former McLaren Formula 1 driver Stefan Johansson helmed this supercar, thus marking its entry into the coveted “200 mph club.” This event, part of McLaren’s 60th-anniversary celebrations, witnessed the 750S join the ranks of its famed predecessors, the 720S and track-centric 765LT, targeting the 200mph milestone on a scenic 3.2-mile stretch of closed state highway in Sun Valley, Idaho. Johansson, along with several McLaren enthusiasts, clocked VMAX speeds over 200mph at this unique event, organized to raise funds for local non-profit charities.
The McLaren 750S, available in Coupe and Spider versions, sets a new standard in supercar performance. As the lightest, most potent series-production McLaren, this V8-engined, 740-horsepower marvel sprints from 0-60mph in a mere 2.7 seconds, achieving 124mph in 7.2 seconds, and an independently verified top speed beyond 200mph. Unfortunately for those eager to get behind the wheel, the US allocation is sold out until 2024, with deliveries commencing later this year. Johansson, after piloting the 750S, was full of admiration for McLaren’s latest creation, applauding its comfortable, predictable yet blistering performance, and its fitting continuation of the 720S legacy.
