Introducing the McLaren 765LT Spider, limited to just 765 examples.

A successor to the McLaren 720S Spider is here and it’s better in just about every way. Debuted by the British automaker is the new 765LT Spider, a new range-topping convertible that boasts very impressive specs.

Being a successor to the 720S Spider, the 765LT Spider will naturally be compared in many ways. Thankfully, it delivers better numbers in a variety of ways. For its power, a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 engine delivers 755 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque. With a 0 to 60 mph time of just 2.7 seconds (15% quicker than the 720S), it’s the fastest accelerating LT Spider that McLaren has ever created.

When discussing convertibles, the weight will always come up because these variants are typically heavier than their coupe companions. Thankfully, McLaren put in a proper amount of work in the weight department. With a weight of 3,060 lbs, the 765LT Spider is just 108 lbs heavier than the 765LT Coupe and 176 lbs lighter than the 720S Spider. It should be noted that air conditioning and an audio system are not included as standard for the sake of saving weight, but they can be included at no additional cost.

Being a variant of the 765LT Coupe, this new Spider also features the same aerodynamic package. From the front splitter to the rear diffuser, it’s all there and it created 25% more downforce than the 720S Spider. However, there is one big difference between the two and it can be found in the rear wing. McLaren has calibrated the active rear wing so it takes into account whether or not the roof is up. That means the driver will have optimum aerodynamics no matter the roof’s position.

The McLaren 765LT Spider will come into the world with a starting MSRP of $382,500, putting it well above the original starting price of the 720S Spider ($315,000). McLaren will be offering an available MSO Clubsport Pack, MSO LT Black Pack, and individual MSO options. Just 765 examples will be created and the entire allocation for 2021 production has been sold out.
