While McLaren’s renowned supercars and hypercars are known for their stunning looks, their high-performance powertrains are what makes them one of the leading automotive manufacturers. McLaren is excited to continue that legacy as the brand announces a multi-year partnership with the U.K. engine suppliers at Ricardo. Manufacturing its next generation of V6 and V8 platforms, McLaren’s in-house powertrain team designed its new engines as part of the company’s Future of Performance strategy. No stranger to McLaren’s supercar production, Ricardo was responsible for constructing 34,000 powertrains at their Shoreham-by-Sea facility during the hand assembly of the MP4-12C in 2011.

The new agreement states that Ricardo will supply both hybrid and non-hybrid engine variants using its team of 100 expert manufacturing engineers and technicians. Once assembled and packaged, the high-performance engines will take a short 50-mile from Ricardo’s factory to McLaren Headquarters, where they will fit into models like the Artura, 765LT, 720S, and 570S.
