The stunning realization of a concept car from the screens of virtual racing into an extreme expression of track driving engagement that will exhilarate in the real world.

While Monterey Car Week kicks off with some unbelievable unveils from industry leaders like Bugatti and Koenigsegg, the performance specialists at McLaren Automotive were sure to have some big news of their own prepared. McLaren Automotive is proud to reveal the all-new Solus GT, a track-only chassis derived from the concept of the video gaming world. The McLaren Solus GT will be produced as a special commission for just 25 lucky customers that have already secured all the available chassis. The single-set closed-cockpit track car was unveiled on the coast of Northern California during Monterey Car Week by CEO Michael Leiters.

With the debut of the Solus GT, McLaren is successfully creating the world’s first track-only vehicle designed from the futuristic McLaren concept that was featured in the Gran Turismo Sport video game. The aggressive exterior styling screams ultra-lightweight, with a total weight of 2,205 pounds that helps achieve an astonishing 2,645 pounds of downforce using its aerodynamic performance. Its state-of-the-art aerodynamic system channels air through the front splitter and ground effect tunnels until it exits through the rear diffuser. A motorsport-inspired intake above the cockpit integrated into the design of the roll hoop cover feeds cold air into the engine, while also providing an engaging induction sound. A twin-element fixed rear wing is the secret weapon for the Solus GT, helping with straight-line speed while enhancing its cornering. Although its all-new body features futuristic aspects like a sliding canopy, the Solus GT adopts characteristics like its central seat from the legendary McLaren F1.

At the heart of the new Solus GT lies a powertrain unseen in any other McLaren, a 5.2-Liter Naturally-Aspirated V10 engine capable of generating over 829 brake horsepower and 479 foot-pounds of torque. Paired with a bespoke sequential 7-speed transmission, McLaren’s new limited-production track car has a target 0-62mph of 2.5-seconds with a 10,000rpm redline. Despite the immense amount of downforce created by its aerodynamic design, the McLaren Solus GT plans on coming with a maximum speed in access of 200mph. Along with the ability to further customize a configuration through the McLaren Special Operations (MSO) division, clients are also able to purchase a full ‘racing driver experience’ in addition to the Solus GT. The special package will include a driving seat molded to individual body shape, an FIA-homologated race suit, helmet and HANS (Head And Neck Support) device bespoke to each owner, and a driver-development coaching program. The 25 excited new owners of the McLaren Solus GT are expected to begin receiving their desired specs in 2023.
