McLaren is set to celebrate its rich history and also unveil something new at Velocity Invitational.
McLaren, the quintessential name in the supercar world, is commemorating its 60th anniversary with a visual feast and racing spectacle. Scheduled for November 10-12, the celebration will take place at the Velocity Invitational held at Sonoma Raceway in Northern California. This sets the stage for what promises to be an exhilarating closure to a year of milestones, each more thrilling than the last, in honor of the brand’s six decades of high-octane success.
The company, which was established in England by Bruce McLaren on September 2nd, 1963, established its presence in the Americas as a renowned performance and racing powerhouse. It was in 2011 that McLaren Automotive sold its first car in the region. For the Velocity Invitational event, McLaren is pulling out all the stops, bringing together a stunning line-up of their most iconic vehicles. Get ready to see the McLaren P1™, Senna, Elva, and a variety of high-performance LT models. Even the very first McLaren customer race car, the M1A Elva—famed for being driven by none other than Elvis Presley in the 1966 movie Spinout—will make a guest appearance.
But it’s not just road cars that are hogging the limelight. McLaren Racing is showcasing an extraordinary collection of heritage race cars. Many of these speed machines, such as Niki Lauda’s 1984 World Championship-winning MP4/2A-1 and Lewis Hamilton’s 2008 Championship MP4/23A-05, are not frequently displayed in North America.
