We’ve all heard the saying, “You never grow up, the toys just get bigger and more expensive”, and LEGO has taken that to heart with its newest collaboration project with McLaren Automotive. As part of the release of the LEGO 3,893-piece McLaren P1 build set, the dynamic duo came together to build a life-size P1 using LEGO Technic pieces. This incredible achievement involved 342,817 pieces and weighs around 2,690lbs, marking a milestone of complexity for LEGO. With functional steering and an electric motor, the build can actually take on corners. The project took 23 specialists over 8,344 hours to complete, using 393 different LEGO Technic components.
McLaren F1 team driver Lando Norris was tasked with the ultimate challenge: completing a lap around Silverstone in this unique car. Lando Norris successfully navigated the twists and turns of the famous British circuit in the LEGO McLaren P1 as a nod to McLaren’s deep-rooted history in motorsport. The Silverstone track, measuring 3.66 miles, proved to be the perfect backdrop for this one-of-a-kind collaboration.
