The entry level compact sedan from Mercedes-Benz has received quite a few upgrades for its new iteration, with the marque’s classic quality present in every stitch and dial.

The new generation of the A-Class is set to go on sale July 3 and appear in showrooms by September, but a June 26 YouTube video and June 27 press release from the marque give us a closer look at its blend of comfort and sporty performance.

An in-line four-cylinder engine is available in either a gas or diesel version, with a few different variants producing a range of performance figures. The top-of-the-line version is the Mercedes-AMG A 45, which offers the same Dynamic Select driving modes as the Mercedes-AMG GT: Comfort, Sport, Sport + and Individual. It can create 381 hp and 350 lb-ft, making it capable of reaching 62 mph from a standstill in just 4.2 seconds.

As the entry-level model from Mercedes-AMG, the A 45 holds its own. The base version of the A-Class, the A 160, doesn’t quite create the same power as the AMG offering, it still includes many design cues from the AMG line. Sportiness and dynamic body lines define the exterior, while the interior is a perfect blend of athleticism and Mercedes-Benz luxury. Apple CarPlay will come standard, while Exclusive package and Motorsport Edition trim each bring new colors, accents and contrast stitching into the design.
