Mercedes-Benz A-Class L Makes Surprise Debut

Daimler just started production on the new Mercedes-Benz A-Class and they’ve already debuted a new model, the A-Class L. But before I go any further, I’ll note that the A-Class L will only be available to China. This is the point where we play the sad trumpet sound.

“With our Chinese customers’ wishes and needs in mind, we developed the A‑Class L Sedan for the local market, which is the first and only long wheelbase model in the premium compact car segment,” said Hubertus Troska, Member of the Board of Management of Daimler AG, responsible for Greater China. “This long wheelbase version offers added space, with a rear compartment dedicated to meeting local preferences.”

So, what IS the A-Class L? It’s essentially a long wheelbase version of the base model vehicle. The wheelbase and kneeroom for rear passengers were both increased, with the former making it possible for the latter to happen. As for power, it will rely on an all-aluminum four-cylinder 1.33-liter engine. Not enough for you? Mercedes has a massive 2-liter four-cylinder coming shortly (yes, that was sarcasm).

There’s no current word as to if this Mercedes-Benz A-Class L will make its way westward.
