The elusive Mythos series from Mercedes-Benz is starting to take shape.
In 2022, Mercedes-Benz announced many of its long-term plans as a manufacturer, one of the most intriguing being the introduction of limited-production cars under the name Mythos. Little has been said about Mythos since then, but ahead of this year’s Monaco Grand Prix, one of the most exclusive events in the motorsport world, a significant step has been made towards bringing Mythos to fruition.
Unveiled against the ultra-glamorous backdrop of Monaco as the Formula 1 racing weekend approaches, Mercedes-Benz revealed the new Concept Mercedes-AMG PureSpeed, which is a look at the first model that will be a part of the highly exclusive Mythos series from Mercedes-Benz. With a completely open barchetta design that lacks a roof and a windshield, the PureSpeed evokes timeless race car thrill and F1 inspiration, making pre-Grand Prix Monaco the perfect place for its unveiling.
F1 cars and the radical Mercedes-AMG ONE hypercar inspire the PureSpeed, with features like an F1-inspired HALO taking the place of an A-pillar and carbon fiber aerodiscs enhancing the aerodynamic qualities of the wheels. However, futurism and modern performance aren’t the only inspirations for the PureSpeed, with its design also taking cues from vehicles like the 300 SLR, which Stirling Moss and Denis Jenkinson drove to victory at the 1955 Mille Miglia in Italy. Its gradient paintwork, going from Le Mans Red to Graphite Grey and then to black, pays homage to the 1924 Targa Florio-winning Mercedes-Benz, dating the PureSpeed’s historical references back 100 years.
Kicking off the highly-anticipated Mythos series of cars for Mercedes-Benz, the small series debut of the production version of the PureSpeed is set for next year. This will officially usher in a new era of Mercedes-Benz exclusivity, luxury, performance, and collector-car glory.
