The ultimate Mercedes-Benz icon evolves again.

The Mercedes-Benz G-Class is one of the most steadfast staples in the luxury automotive world. A favorite among luxury lovers, celebs, and off-roading enthusiasts alike, it’s celebrated for its impressive capabilities, luxurious features, robust performance, and of course, its absolutely unmistakable style. However, Mercedes-Benz has revamped the G-Class yet again, with more technology and versatility than before.

For the United States, two versions are available: the G 550, and the Mercedes-AMG G 63. The former is powered by a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six-cylinder engine with 443 horsepower and 413 lb/ft of torque. Mild hybrid technology assists the system at low engine speeds with an additional 20 horsepower and 148 lb/ft of torque. In typical AMG fashion, the G 63 features a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 engine, good for 577 horsepower and 627 lb/ft of torque, and assisted by the same mild hybrid technology as the inline-six.

In the G 550, the transfer case provides a 40/60 front/rear split of all-wheel drive power, with three locking differentials and low range gear reduction for tackling especially difficult terrain. Meanwhile, the performance-focused AMG model also offers a suite of off-road capable functions, like AMG Traction PRO, which adapts to road conditions to provide maximum traction, and the AMG ACTIVE RIDE CONTROL suspension, which can adapt to serve different situations.

With a legacy that stretches all the way back to 1979, the Mercedes-Benz G-Class is one of the historic luxury brand’s most important legends, and its newest iteration looks forward to continuing that incredible legacy. With the new Mercedes-Benz G 550 and Mercedes-AMG G 63 showcasing more innovation and off-road ability than ever, and arriving at U.S. dealerships in the second half of this year, Mercedes-Benz reiterates why the G-Class has its unshakeable icon status.
