will.i.am and West Coast Customs create a Mercedes-AMG for a project that benefits and inspires.
Teased earlier this week, we already know that will.i.am and Mercedes-AMG have teamed up on a quite quirky-looking coupe, and now we have more detail about what it is and what it’s for. The car is called the WILL.I.AMG is central to the project “The Flip – Innovation for Purpose,” a project dedicated to inspiring and providing access for students in disadvantaged communities to pursue STEAM and aspire towards careers in that realm. The car will be premiered at the Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix with guests like Lewis Hamilton involved in the reveal.
Looking at the car itself, it’s an AMG GT 4-Door Coupe-based car that turns the four doors into two suicide doors and features inspiration from the G-Class SUV and the SLS Gullwing, and its design is inspired by will.i.am’s vision of an AMG model after witnessing AMG and Mercedes-Benz’s presence in hip-hop culture. It also features a custom bear logo inspired by the sound of the car and the Mercedes-Benz star logo called “BEAR WITNESS.” An apparel and accessories collection called the BEAR WITNESS collection will have its first drop on May 6 at 12:00 noon EST. A portion of the proceeds from sales of the collection will go to the i.am/Angel foundation, where it will go towards the STEAM-focused mission that the car was created to achieve. A documentary series about the creation of the car, called “DRIVE” will also premiere at the 2022 Cannes film festival.
