Reimagining an icon from 1928.

You may know Czech-based Praga for their race cars or recent Bohema hypercar, but in the early 1900s, they also created a motorcycle. It was back in 1928 that the Praga BD 500 was created, a modern (at the time) motorcycle. This motorcycle was actually responsible for a record-breaking sprint from Rome to Prague that took just 35 hours and 40 minutes. Now, just about 100 years later, Praga is introducing the ZS 800 motorcycle.

The new Praga ZS 800 motorcycle is what the company is calling “a modern reimagining of the iconic 1928 Praga BD 500.” Built around a chrome molybdenum steel frame that features a titanium exhaust system and carbon wheels, the ZS 800 is extraordinarily light. Weighing in at just 142 kg dry (around 313 lbs), this motorcycle has 50:50 weight distribution and sounds like a dream in terms of handling. For power, the ZS 800 relies on an air-cooled 773cc four-stroke parallel twin engine that offers up 50 horsepower.

What’s truly intriguing about the Praga ZS 800 and its design. When considering how this new motorcycle would look, Praga’s designers took heavy inspiration from the original BD 500 and implemented aspects of the original into the structure, build, and even engine architecture.

The Praga ZS 800 will have a 28-example production run and will have a price of £75,550 (around $91,000). They are now available to order with deliveries starting mid-2023.
