The Mitsubishi GTO, sold as the 3000GT and Dodge Stealth in North America, replaced the Starion as Mitsubishi’s flagship performance offering in 1990. A product of the performance car development war which embroiled all the major Japanese manufacturers at the time, the 3000GT was brimming with cutting-edge technology. The range-topping VR-4 boasted full-time four-wheel drive and four-wheel steering, helping transmit the 300 horsepower and 307 lb-ft of torque from its twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter DOHC V6 to the road. The model underwent various changes throughout its production run, including a revised bumper and side vents, fixed headlights, a six-speed manual transmission, and an additional 20 horsepower from 1994. Among collectors, the limited-production Spyder VR-4 is held as the most desirable specification, as a mere 900 examples were exported to the US before production ceased in 2000.
This car is part of the Retro Motors Collection, which comprises over 30 cars largely from the 1950s through today, with a focus on American muscle and high-powered European sports cars. Bidding ends on 6/1 at 4:30PM EST.
