After nearly two decades of shaping the style and luxury of Bugatti, Director of Design, Achim Anscheidt, is taking a step back. His 19 years of meticulous craftsmanship have played a significant role in the brand’s evolution, with iconic models like the Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse and Veyron Super Sport standing as a testament to his influential vision. Under Anscheidt’s guidance, Bugatti grew exponentially, becoming synonymous with bespoke craftsmanship and breathtaking design.
Anschiedt’s unique journey started in the thrilling world of motorsports, guided by his father, three-time motorbike racing world champion, Hans-Georg Anscheidt. His childhood experiences developed a natural talent for art and perspective drawing, which later fused with his automotive passion at the ArtCenter College of Design. From here, his talent led him to a junior designer role at Porsche Design Weissach, and eventually to his pivotal role at Bugatti.

Though retiring, Anscheidt isn’t entirely leaving Bugatti. He will remain a senior advisor to Mate Rimac, CEO of Bugatti Rimac, assisting in the transition to the brand’s next exciting chapter – a hybridized successor to the Chiron. Stepping into the Director of Design role is Frank Heyl, a seasoned veteran in the Bugatti team. In his tenure, Anscheidt pioneered an elegant, sovereign design ethos, free from aggressive lines. Every model was designed to elicit a sense of wonder, much like encountering a unique work of art. His philosophy of ‘Form Follows Performance’ meant each design delicately balanced aesthetics with complex aerodynamic and thermodynamic requirements.
The Bugatti DNA, including the brand’s horseshoe grille, duotone split, and worldwide recognizable side view profile, were integral elements in Anscheidt’s designs. As Bugatti enters a new era, it continues to celebrate the legacy Anscheidt has left.
