GM Transforms Abandoned Factory to Make Masks in 7 Days

Warren Transmission is an old GM plant that was gutted and boarded up last year. Transmissions are the most complex part of any car, so the facility was capable of incredible flexibility when it was operational. With the unprecedented need for medical equipment, GM transformed this abandoned factory to make masks in only 7 days.

As reported by the Detroit Free Press, a small team on March 20th turned the lights back on. After recruiting interior trim assembly line workers, their skills at leather and seatbelts now have a higher cause. After purchasing several mask machines and inventing faster ways to package them, this team of 2-dozen volunteers hopes to ship 20,000 masks per day by Monday, April 6th. Well done GM!
